Several papers have been published on using the Biomass Monitor for monitoring high density yeast fermentations. The latest paper was presented at RAFT San Diego in Novemeber 2009 by Ingo Knabben from the University of Aachen (Germany).
In the work at at Aachen, an elevated head space pressure of up to 9 bar (overpressure) was used to obtain higher oxygen transfer rates.
It was concluded that the Biomass Monitor provided reliable capacitance values for biomass concentrations of 176 g/L dry cell weight for a yeast (Arxula adeninivirans) and 85g/L for a bacteria (E. Coli).
